Bellefonte Area School District is accepting applications for the position of an Mechanic.
SUMMARY:
- To maintain the safe and efficient operation of district vehicles and miscellaneous mechanical equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Diagnose and repair district automotive vehicles, tractors, mowers and miscellaneous mechanical equipment.
- Perform moderate body repairs to vehicles including patching, sanding and welding when necessary as well as replace body parts, bumpers, doors, etc.Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Establish an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care, including but not limited to, mandated state inspections, oil and oil filter changes, air and fuel filter changes, rotating tires, daily checks of fluid levels, etc. and fueling of vans and trucks.
- Establish, manage and execute a system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies and the keeping of records and inventories.
- Establish, manage and execute a system for the cleaning of all district vehicles.
- Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
- Establish and oversee vehicle security and vehicle key security.
- Assist with miscellaneous building and equipment repairs, including welding, brazing and silver soldering as necessary.
- Snow removal (plowing) as assigned throughout the district.
- Assist the Supervisor of Transportation in scheduling and preparing district vehicles for use in fieldtrips, etc.
- Assist with preventative maintenance to the district building systems as required.
- Operate computers to request work orders, maintain work orders and update work orders through computer work order system.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Maintenance and/or Director of Physical Plant and Director of Fiscal Affairs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Academic Preparation:
Minimum: High School diploma.
Preferred: Post-secondary vocational training/certification or extensive training in
the area of engine repair, body work, and welding.
Experience:
Minimum: Two years experience of automotive repair required.
Preferred: Ability to operate and maintain vehicles, grounds care, snow removal,
maintenance and custodial equipment is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid PA driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must possess all required background clearances.
- EPA 609 Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning certification preferred.
- Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic.
Level: G
Hours per day: 8; 6:30am-3:00pm (Monday - Friday); One-half hour unpaid lunch
Paid Holidays: 15 per year
Days Worked: 245 a year
This position is in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
